What is Satsang?
Satsang refers to the company that we keep. Literally translated from Sanskrit, "sat" means true, and "sanga" means company; satsang is gathering together to reach the truth, or to inquire into our true nature.
Satsang is a meeting of like-minded spiritual seekers, and is an important component on the spiritual path. Often guided by a Satguru, or True Teacher, students gather to gain deeper understanding of the higher truths through silent group meditation, reviewing sacred texts, dialogue and conversation, question and answers, and more. Supporting students' process of inner reflection, growth and healing, satsang can teach us how to consistently apply these truths in our daily life. Satsang offers a place to confirm our commitment to the spiritual path and to the Teacher.
Satsang is an opportunity to be enriched by the presence and energy of other seekers of Truth.
Satsang provides a positive environment in which to discuss high-vibration spiritual topics. This positive environment supports our spiritual journey. Since manifestation is achieved through our thoughts, words, and actions, the words we choose and the manner in which we speak are very important. Maintaining a high vibration in our choice of words and topics is fundamental. Gossip, complaining and negativity are to be avoided.
Satsang provides a healthy environment and reminds us to always interact with love.
In addition to the outer company we keep, satsang also refers to our “inner” company. Our thoughts and beliefs, positive and negative ego, and inner dialogue also form our satsang. We must be mindful and disciplined in our inner satsang as well. It is essential to keep our inner world focused on the Teacher and the higher truths. To do otherwise is to limit or even stop our spiritual progression. Negative thoughts and destructive inner dialogue can actually send us backwards on the spiritual path, planting seeds of negative karma that will need to be healed and removed in future lives.
SQ is a spiritual community of like-minded people who lovingly gather to discuss the higher spiritual teachings, support each other as we progress along the spiritual path, and help each other live a life of higher vibration. We strive to consistently apply the Teachings and serve humanity with love. At SQ, we believe that service to man is service to God.
