What effect does positive thinking have on ones spiritual path?

My name is Willy Flynn. I was sentenced and served 10 years in prison. I do sing, "Once I was a Prisoner", now I tell my story as a Free Man.

But the truth is this, to be a prisoner of your mind has got to be the worst kind of prison!

What you choose to think and feel you make real!

It would be wise of you to start your day with a happy thought.

How many of you have seen the movie Peter Pan?

What did they call them? The lost boys!

Speaking from my heart they were not lost at all.

Peter spoke wisely telling them to think a happy thought!

If you start your day with a thought (oh just another shitty day) the universe will say to you YES it is another shitty day.

Simply begin to replace a thought like this with a thought that makes you happy.

I will humbly share with you what has been my experience of the mind and thought.

The mind is a tool of consciousness.

The nature of the mind is to have thoughts, and to think.

We get caught up in the labels called positive and negative thought.

Through a technique called following the breath I was able to create an experience for myself.

Where your attention is there you are.

The more alert I was using my attention to focus on the air moving through my nose the more present I seem to be having the awareness that there was a space between two thoughts.

The more I practice this technique the larger the space between the two thoughts became.

Using my attention to stay within the space between two thoughts I was able to observe the thoughts arise and fall.

Within this space of awareness, I saw that what we label positive and negative thoughts arose from the same pool of consciousness.

I became aware through this experience that we qualify consciousness according to what we choose to think and feel.

Derek O'Neill teaches that thoughts are like clouds moving through the blue sky.

Thoughts are just thoughts like clouds are just clouds without the labels positive and negative.

Using my attention to stay within the space between thoughts I had the experience that my awareness was the blue sky as I watched the thoughts float by.
