What are Sacred Teachings?
Powerful and insightful teachings of enlightened masters, handed down over thousands of years, often contain universal truths that are applicable and even essential in living an authentic and meaningful life today. They are not religious concepts but living truths.
The wisdom shared by these sages provides keen insight into methods of living in harmony with each other and with ourselves, and is as relevant in today's high-tech busy world as it was thousands of years ago. We often believe that because we do not know how the game of life works, we cannot fix it. The truth is that the answers to all of our questions can be found in sacred teachings that have been waiting for us to find them. Through understanding and applying these tried and tested teachings to our daily lives, suffering decreases as we become more wise to the ways of the world.
These sacred teachings or philosophies are enjoying a popular resurgence, as increasingly people are seeking truths to help navigate today’s challenging world. With economic shifts, global tensions, and environmental events, we search for meaning and answers amid the perceived confusion. These higher truths enable us to raise our perception of events, see beyond the mundane, recognize the impermanence of all materialistic things, and experience life's events with more awareness and gratitude.
While sacred teachings and philosophies take many forms, including the Bible, the Bhagavad Gita, the Vedas, the Upanashads, the Tibetan Wheel of Life, Buddhist scriptures, the Kabbalah, the Koran, and more, all genuine teachings convey the same Universal truths. Often “hidden” in parables, stories and metaphor, these truths, once correctly understood, provide a blueprint for living a life of love, joy, integrity, compassion and service. Although expressed uniquely in each text, teachings that counsel “love, peace, truth, non-violence and right conduct” (Sathya Sai Baba) can be found in all genuine sacred traditions. These similarities remind us of another ancient teaching: we are all connected as one; a butterfly cannot flutter its wings in Japan without that movement affecting all the world.
These sacred texts hold much modern relevance and offer many benefits in today’s fast-paced world. Studying ancient teachings and consistently applying them to our thoughts, words and actions can help us live more wisely, overcome deep fears, recognize the truth in all events and experiences, and begin to make more conscious choices.
